Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York on the sidelines of UNGA and reiterated India’s support for the early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and the restoration of peace and stability in the region.
In a post on X, PM Modi shared photos of him meeting President Zelenskyy and said, “Met President Zelenskyy in New York. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to strengthen bilateral relations. Reiterated India’s support for early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and restoration of peace and stability.”

PM Modi is in New York on the second leg of his three-day US visit where he addressed the UN’s Summit of the Future held against the backdrop of raging global conflicts.
A video shared by news agency PTI showed PM Modi and Zelenskyy sharing a hug and a handshake. The video also showed Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also present during the meeting.
This was PM Modi’s third meeting with Zelenskyy in about three months. In August this year, PM Modi visited war-torn Ukraine and emphasised India’s stand for peace in the country’s ongoing conflict with Russia.
Speaking about the meeting between the two leaders, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that discussions included bilateral issues as well as issues surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“This is the third meeting between the two leaders in the space of probably 3 months… Their discussions on all matters, the bilateral issues as well as issues surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. President Zelenskyy was very appreciative of India’s attention to these issues and said that the Prime Minister’s visit had been highly appreciated and he thanked the Prime Minister for the efforts that he was making for peace and a pathway to finding a way out of this conflict. Both sides appreciated that there was positive momentum on a lot of issues in the bilateral relationship and they agreed to remain in close touch either directly or through exchanges of visits at various other levels …,” Misri said.
PM Modi arrived in New York on Saturday, September 21, after attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, where he also had bilateral discussions with US President Joe Biden.
PM Modi addressed thousands of members of the Indian-American community on Sunday, September 22, at the ‘Modi&US’ mega community event in Long Island.
He also interacted with the top tech leaders and CEOs of the US in a roundtable conference.
